FAQ’s
Does it hurt to have your ears pierced?
All Claire’s piercing earring posts have ultra-fine points that pierce gently and minimise discomfort. The ear piercing is fast, gentle and few people feel any discomfort.
What is The Ear-Piercing Age Policy?
Piercings are subject to age restrictions. For details, please contact the clinic.
In the UK anyone under the age of 16 years old will need their parent or legal guardian present for the piercing. In some cases, we may need to see identification to confirm your age. In this instance we will accept the following forms of identification:
- Drivers’ license
- Passport
- Proof of age ID card
Legal guardians may need to present proof of guardianship
It’s my first piercing, I am a little nervous – how can I prepare?
It is totally normal to be a little nervous, especially when it’s your first piercing, but you are in safe hands!
Should I avoid anything after my piercing?
Always try to keep your new ear piercing free from soap, perfume, and hair products. Rinsing your ears with clear water after shampooing, then cleanse with After Care Lotion to keep ears clean and earrings sparkly.
The piercing should be cleansed with After Care Lotion and kept dry, especially after bathing, swimming, or exercise.
Take care when brushing your hair, exercising, wearing headphones or anything that might cause discomfort to your new piercing.
Avoid pushing the back on too tight, the tip of the post should be covered and secured in the safety notch.
When can I swap my earrings?
A new piercing is so exciting, and we know you will be keen to try out new styles soon. It is important that you give your ears time to heal before changing your ear piercing.
Lobe Piercing: With standard After Care Lotion, it is usually necessary to wait 6 weeks before changing your earrings. With the After Care Lotion, you can usually change your earring after 3 weeks.
My piercing is sore, what should I do?
Minor pain or redness may occur immediately; this is normal. This will settle within 48 hours provided proper aftercare is carried out. If undue pain, swelling, or redness occurs at any time- seek medical advice before removing the ear-piercing stud. Ear piercing can result in inflammation and/or infection. Infected ear piercings should be washed and then treated with antibiotic cream. Further treatment involves either allowing the piercing to close or using only non-irritating jewellery (usually gold or hypoallergenic plastic).
The likelihood of inflammation and infection is greater for piercings that go through hard cartilage, as found on the side and top of the outer ear, than for the soft bottom lobe of the ear.
