What Does The Procedure Involve?

STEP 1:
After an initial consultation and a patch test 24 hours prior to your treatment, your practitioner will prepare the area you have selected for the treatment. This will include cleansing the area and possibly shaving it. If you have any tattoos or moles these will be covered and you will be given protective eyewear.

STEP 2:
Once the laser machine has been prepared, the treatment head is moved over the area of skin and activated. This procedure is almost entirely pain-free, and some clients say it feels similar to having an elastic band lightly snapped on surface of the skin. Others describe it as mild warmth.

STEP 3:
In a few cases, the skin may appear slightly sore or red immediately after the treatment. Any redness will soon go down and you will begin to notice the results almost immediately after your first session. An aloe vera and good SPF are recommended.

How Does Laser Work?

Laser treatment affects hair in the active growth phase. The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. At any one time, some of the hair foliciles will be in the active growth phase, so a course of treatment is needed to ensure that all follicles are permanently affected and will not produce any more hair. Most people will need a course of between 6 and 10 sessions after which time the hair will appear visibly reduced and skin will be smooth and even

Does It Hurt?

For some people there is a sensation of mild prickling but for others the experience is virtually pain-free. (90% of our customers reported a virtually pain free experience)

What is a Patch Test?

This is the procedure which allows us to check that your skin is suitable for laser hair removal. A general inspection of your skin will take place and then a small area will be exposed to the laser light. In addition to ensuring no adverse reactions occur, this also provides us with the opportunity to tailor the machine’s settings to your personal requirements. It also allows the client to experience the laser hair removal machine in small doses before embarking on full treatments.

Am I Suitable For laser Hair Removal?

Lasers target pigment so as long as your hair is not red, white or grey then you are likely to be a suitable candidate for laser hair removal. The thicker and darker the hair the better the result. The thicker darker hair is a much bigger target for the machine to find.

How Often Will I need Treatment?

You must have around 6 to 10 sessions to get the optimum benefit. Facial laser hair treatments can be every 4 weeks and body laser hair removal treatments are performed every 6 weeks. Your nurse will discuss the hair type and how rapid the hair grows back which may increase how often you attend the clinic for treatment.

Is There Any Side Effects?

For most people the only side-effect reported is a mild redness. For others there may be a little sensitivity in the area that has been treated, Aloe Vera gel can usually be applied to calm this down.

How Should I prepare For a Treatment

Avoid any other hair removal methods such as waxing, threading or hair removal creams for 6 weeks before the treatment. Avoid sun exposure which makes laser hair removal less effective and cause complications. Avoid sunbeds and tanning creams. On the day of service please arrive pre-shaved and loose-fitting clothing. Waxing maybe advised by your nurse as a compliment to this service prior to treatment (which we offer in clinic).
